Why Proverbial Girl?
As a mom of a teenage girl, I searched for a book or magazine that could teach
her the things I felt all girls should know. Unfortunately, most of the books and
magazines I found focused on how to get the boy of her dreams, how to apply
make-up, or how to match a blouse with a cute skirt. Now don’t get me wrong, I
know a lot of girls are interested in guys, make-up and fashion, however, I didn’t
see how any of these topics would prepare her for the real world that is constantly
changing around her.
It was in that moment that I knew God, our Father, was calling me to write this
book. The only problem was I wasn’t sure how.
One day, I received an unexpected call from Rev. Russ inviting me to join the After
the Music Stops Family by writing a devotional for girls. Of course I was all in!
What greater place to teach my daughter and other girls how to carry themselves
than through Proverbs 31 which tells the story of the perfect young woman who
is well-rounded and resourceful. Living life in this manner should be every young
girl’s ultimate goal.
Proverbial Girl is filled with funny, inspirational and challenging stories that are
designed to teach you how to walk like a Proverbial Girl NOW!
The book of Titus encourages the older women to teach the younger women how
to grow and walk in this life. So, just consider me your “Big Sister” for the next 31

WHY I THINK THIS BOOK IS AMAZING

Why I think this book is amazing!!

Unfortunately, I disagree with the previous review about it being lies. The Proverbs woman did a lot, not because it determined her worth but because she was already worthy. It was God's grace that help her being such a great example to us all. This book definitely teaches young women that they are worthy enough to walk in the same power, grace and wisdom as the Proverbial women.

hi everyone,
I purchased this book to have a good review on problems that are at the end of the chapter. But this book provides only solution to partial number of problems like every third problem. Not a complete set of solution. That disappointed me and so I am returning this book back.

Short but informed

A book that is slight in pages but strong on content.

Terence Craig and Mary Ludloff take the reader on a swift but informed journey across the landscape of modern privacy issues arising from our online life. Predictably the book is full of caution and warning - it is no surprise that our private information is doing the rounds in places that we don't know, and governments are encroaching our privacy under the banner of national security. Orwell's Big Brother isn't alive and well - he has been replaced by an even more worrisome industry of data aggregators who make their living by combining our on-line information from multiple sources.

The strong points of the book are many. A cogent discussion of the issues, a review of the various approaches to legislation in the US, Europe, China and even my home nation, Australia. And what I liked most - a balanced assessment of the risks and a nod towards the upside - all that 'free' stuff we get on the web courtesy of surrendering our personal information.

The downsides of the book? Not many, although I would have liked the authors to have shared some more of their insights into what the world might look like in ten years hence. Not crystal ball gazing, just what some of the implications might be depending on how current developments play out.

If you have a couple of hours to spare (the book is under 100 pages) and you want to get your head around the hard facts of the current privacy dilemmas arising from your online life, then you could do a lot worse than cast an eye over this publication. If you want something philosophical with big picture stuff and something to send shudders up your spine, then this is probably not what you are after.

The Writing Muddles the Content

This book was purchased as a required text for a course on privacy. I was appalled at the poor writing and the heavy reliance on wikipedia links. The content would have been more informative if presented as an outline. I say this because the content would have been more clear and more easily understood if not interrupted by the poor quality prose. In addition to numerous grammatical errors, the writing is disrupted by overly frequent inline website citations which would have been better included as footnotes.

Readers should also be aware that the tone is far from objective. It deviates from the bulk of O'Reilly's outstanding library in that it is not a scholarly presentation but is instead infused with the authors' personal negative viewpoint. It's possible that they are intentionally attempting to create a demand for their business services by inspiring fear.

My concern about the rigor of their sources was highlight by the inclusion of a reference from [...]

In general, there is not enough information and insight in this book to warrant spending money on it. Instead, if you are interested in a superficial listing of agencies and constraints, I suggest skimming through a library copy or better yet, do an online search on "digital privacy" to retrieve more informative online sources.

Privacy, What Privacy?

I found this book a real eye-opener. It is more than likely a quick read if you purchased the paperback, but I had the digital version (94 pages), in which all references (and there are a lot of references) are clickable. Which makes it too easy to get lost in all additional information. I think most of us, in our haste to "get to the content", rationalize that it is only an email, birthday, or zipcode and that's no big deal. If we only knew what was really going on. That is where this book comes in, in a big way. I feel that Terrence and Mary did a great job in presenting the "facts", each covering their share of a wide spectrum of (global) opinions, in respect to their own views. They actually share their own point of view at the end of the book, which an attentive reader would catch a hints of throughout the book. As for me, I was too caught up in disbief in how our data is actually being used. I can see why it's an absolute gold mine for big businesses, governments and the like. The Internet truly is the modern version of the wild, wild west, and though there are those who would try to regulate it, there is just too much data already out there. In fact, both authors are pretty much in agreement on this point, "Once your information is out there, it is too hard to control who uses it, and what it's really used for..." (paraphrased). I would say this is a great read, I loved it, and it leaves me wanting more (information, that is). At the very least, the readers of this book will be MORE aware.

A Beautiful Book

Foster presents here a solution to the problem of induction and an argument for the existence of God. He argues that the past regularities of nature are best explained by the existence of natural laws, and that these are in turn best understood as regularities causally imposed by God. The existence of such laws allows for rational inductive inferences.
Foster's development of the theistic hypothesis (his preference for a single omnipotent, omniscient and perfectly good God) seems to borrow from Swinburne, but there are differences.
I worry that there is no non-circular justification for the criteria for hypothesis choice that Foster relies on; Hume's problem of induction may re-emerge for inference to the best explanation. But perhaps it is no problem that inference to the best explanation is a fundamental form of correct reasoning which cannot be justified in a non-circular way (along with deduction), and the problem may be that induction faces an additional problem such that it is not a fundamental form of correct reasoning. (This has been suggested to me by a couple of people, and note Foster at Lecture 2, V).
Foster covers some of the most interesting and important topics in philosophy, including the problem of induction, laws of nature and the existence of God. Very few people compare to Foster in clarity and grace of writing.
This book may (or may not) be difficult for beginners, but it is strongly recommended for anyone seriously interested in induction theory, laws of nature and philosophy of religion.

The Divine Lawmaker: Lectures on Induction, Laws of Nature, and the Existence of God by John Foster (Oxford University Press) presents a clear and powerful discussion of a range of topics relating to our understanding of the universe: induction, laws of nature, and the existence of God. He begins by developing a solution to the problem of induction-a solution whose key idea is that the regularities in the workings of nature that have held in our experience hitherto are to he explained by appeal to the controlling influence of laws, as forms of natural necessity. His second line of argument focuses on the issue of what we should take such necessitational laws to be, and whether we can even make sense of them at all. Having considered and rejected various alternatives, Foster puts forward his own proposal: the obtaining of a law consists in the causal imposing of a regularity on the universe as a regularity. With this causal account of laws in place, he is now equipped to offer an argument for theism. His claim is that natural regularities call for explanation, and that, whatever explanatory role we may initially assign to laws, the only plausible ultimate explanation is in terms of the agency of God. Finally, he argues that, once we accept the existence of God, we need to think of him as creating the universe by a method which imposes regularities on it in the relevant law-yielding way. In this new perspective, the original nomological-explanatory solution to the problem of induction becomes a theological-explanatory solution.
The Divine Lawmaker is bold and original in its approach, and rich in argument. The issues on which it focuses are among the most important in the whole epistemological and metaphysical spectrum.
The Divine Lawmaker is a slightly revised version of a series of lectures that Foster gave at the University of Oxford under the title of `Induction, Laws of Nature, and the Existence of God'-a title that explicitly indicates the topics that form their subject matter.
Foster covers quite a lot of philosophical and theological ground. And, on the face of it, diverse ground. But there is a connection between the different topics. One of his main aims is to provide an argument for the existence of God-a personal God of a broadly Jewish Christian type. Foster develops his arguments in four stages that include the topics of induction and laws of nature.
Foster begins by looking at the familiar problem of induction, claiming that certain ways of attempting to solve it do not work. The idea of induction occupies the first two lectures. Next-at stage two- Foster introduces and defends what he asserts is, in its core, the right solution to the problem of induction. It is a solution that the Australian philosopher David Armstrong has also proposed independently at virtually the same time-Armstrong presenting it in his 1983 book What is a Law of Nature?, Foster in his 1983 paper to the Aristotelian Society entitled `Induction, Explanation, and Natural Necessity'. Armstrong and Foster are at opposite ends of the metaphysical spectrum. Armstrong is the foremost modern champion of total materialism. Foster is one of the few modern defenders of a Cartesian conception of the mind; and, more exotically, Foster combines this mind-body dualism with an idealist view of the physical world (though claim is not developed in the context of this book). Both Armstrong and Foster find it amusing, and in a sense reassuring, that, with such contrasting metaphysical outlooks, they manage to converge on the same view in this understanding of induction and natural law.
Now this proposed solution to the problem of induction involves accepting the existence of laws of nature, and it involves recognizing these laws not just
as regularities in the behavior of things (consistencies in how the world works in different places and times), but as forms of natural necessity-as laws whose obtaining ensures that things behave and interact in certain regular ways. It is this that brings the discussion to its third stage in Foster's argument. Foster demonstrates that accepting the existence of laws of this kind, though facilitating a solution to the problem of induction, creates its own problem. The problem it creates is simply that, given the kind of necessity these laws involve, it is hard to see how to make sense of such laws-how the relevant notion of a law can be considered coherent.
It is in relation to this new problem that, in the fourth and final phase of the discussion, Foster constructs an argument for the existence of God. For he argues that, given the problem of unintelligibility or lack of coherence, one can only achieve a satisfactory account of the of the coherence of laws if we entertain that there is a God of the relevant (broadly Jewish and Christian) type, and that it is God who is the creator of the natural world and the source of its laws. With the argument for theism in place, Foster concludes the discussion by looking again at the issue of induction, and showing how his earlier proposal needs to be reworked, in certain key respects, in response to the theistic necessity of holding moral and natural law. Foster's arguments, if one is able to follow them, may bolster faith and might seems irrelevant to those with nonthestic neutrality.

There is still no good reference on OpenSSO/OpenAM

At half the price, I might have been a little more generous in my rating (but not by much).

The book starts by giving a brief history of the product, in all its various forms and insists upon pointing to Oracle as being the keeper of the flame for OpenSSO, which is hard to swallow given their stated intention to kill it, removing public access to binaries and to a lot of information. I know the author works for them, but really!

The quality of the writing and editing is poor, with incomplete sentences and fairly complex examples running inline with the text. Just changing font isn't enough, they need to be extracted from the text and presented in isolation. It isn't clear how much attention the publisher's editor paid to the content, but apparently not much. For example, the section entitled "Administrating the Server" would more properly be written as " Administering the Server".

URLs just appear out of thin air. How is the user supposed to know these? Is there reason and a scheme behind them? (There is, not a particularly wonderful one, but its there).

Two things really stand out as big problems: The mention of areas which are complex, poorly (or not) documented and where users typically have problems. These are written off as "beyond the scope of this book", about the third time you read that phrase, it starts to get old. Similarly treatment of the GUI, mentioning that a particular screen has many tabs and going on to say that they are mostly not going to be covered:. Well, sorry, that was what I bought the books for! The second problem is the long and complex command-line examples. There is no explanation of the (many) options, just a three or four line horribly complex commands. No discussion of whether the same thing can be achieved in the GUI. Unless you already know how to use the command line tool, this book won't help.

If you just follow the flow of the book, type in the examples exactly as shown, click the GUI as told, you will get through the book, but at the end will probably not have learned much.

Since federation is one of the principle selling points, its absence (other than some canned wizards for a couple of somewhat useless examples) is inexcusable. Not covering entitlements similarly.

The book lost its way. It is not a book on internals (although it delves into them in many areas), its not a book on advanced administration, too much is missing, and its not a book on deployment. It touches on all three, but incompletely.

The book follows the same pattern that has been a huge problem for this series of products since DSAME, thinking that it is reasonable that an end user/administrator should end up extracting and editing huge and complex XML files. Sorry, XML is not a user interface, and never should be. Explaining these as part of an internals description would be fine, but as part of the normal administration process is not (this is not entirely the fault of the book's author).

If you get to the end of the book, you will (maybe) have succeeded in setting up a highly complex system to put password protection on a webserver and tomcat. Something these products can do natively without any help from OpenSSO. Its the next steps that are important, and the ones totally absent from this book.

Not good for a technical audience

I bought this book hoping to gain some understanding of how to configure OpenAM and learn about the various ways that OpenAM could be used for single-sign-on. The first hurdle is one of terminology, and here the book fails to provide basic guidance, using specific terms without defining them, or showing options without explaining why and when I might need those options. The second hurdle is context - when do I need certain scenarios and why would I chose them? It uses borrowed terminology from LDAP without explaining how LDAP is configured or what those options mean. The third hurdle is completeness and organization - the book jumps from topic to topic in a disorganized way, spending lots of time on screen shots or specific scenarios such as Salesforce.com integration, but failing to even mention basics such IDP initiated SSO or SAML REST integration.

If you're looking for the minimum in how to install OpenAM or possibly even simple Salesforce.com integration then maybe you will get some use from the book. I didn't find much of anything useful for myself.

For 15$ on kindle, if you need a quick overview of openAM, does the job

I needed to quickly review openAM (formerly openSSO from Sun) for a technology/architecture decision. I just wanted something to get up to speed quickly to read on the ipad while going to sleep. For 15$, this served the purpose. I have to say that I was a little thrown back by all the typos that a simple run of a spell check would've caught (I have the kindle edition, bought November 2012). This is the kind of book where you think you could almost do a better job at writing a book. It feels more like the documentation we usually throw on the intranet for our fellow code maintainers of the future than something that would actually get published. Come on, spell check errors? For example, page 16: "to address the there primary issues". Also weird sentences like page 17: "It provides only standards-based solutions in the world to provide a pluggable, end to end secure web services solution". Why "in the world" ??? I can't find the typo, I stopped bookmarking them one third of the way in but some words would not possibly have passed a dictionary check. And I agree with another reviewer about the localhost URLs. I knew very well that these were based on an /etc/hosts definition but I bet the author lost a lot of people there. It would be so simple to put a little explanation to casual readers how to set that up (/etc/hosts on *nix and windows/system/drivers/etc/hosts). And to maybe highlight just the part of the URL that is important (the part after /openSSO). I was able to follow but kept thinking how so many people would probably be lost at this point, like fellow commenters have done so.
But, for the positive: it does the job and I don't feel bad having spent the 15$. I feel like I have a good idea on openAM's possibilities. If you already know openSSO then you might want to skip this book. I'd say it's more of a tool to get up to speed quickly if you're anything like me and sometime want to have someone walk you through a technology without having to browse back and forth on multiple web sites. You want that one stop shop that's going to show you a big picture quick. I read most of the book in 3 evenings so this is a quick read. You will certainly have to complement with online reading. I wish there were other openAM books. This one left me on my thirst. On the other hand, there's a lot of documentation online (on the openAM site, forgerock,etc.). Plus, if you've already worked with authorization and authentication, most of this just makes plain sense. For the OAuth and other federated stuff, you can find other books to fill in that part.
So, 3 stars, it's okay.

This classic text book on Structure-Borne sound transmission is a must-have for anyone in the field of noise & vibration. The book is relatively easily to follow. It is full of very useful and practical information. It is highly recommended as a reference for graduate students and practicing engineers.

Hosie spools out her marvelous dark humor, making the first half of the book an utter joy to read, although the plot demands more focus on action later. Readers may well wonder why these eminently likable characters have been consigned to Hell, but apparently in some cases it is merely a bureaucratic error. More splendidly hellish fun. Donna Hosie is the author of The Devil's Intern, which was named a 2014 YALSA Best Fiction Book for Young Adults as well as a Kirkus Reviews Best Book of 2014 and earned starred reviews from Kirkus Reviews and School Library Journal. Donna is a full-time geek who fell into writing while working as a Warner Brothers' fan consultant on movie tie-in video games. Originally from England, she now lives in Australia with her husband, three children, and a crazy Golden Retriever named Harry (after a certain boy wizard).

A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very well written paranormal book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great paranormal movie, animated cartoon, or mini TV series. Not my normal read but I liked it. There is no doubt in my mind this is a very easy rating of 5 stars.

About the Author
David Grant worked for 8 years with the International House in France, Spain, and England, as a teacher, teacher trainer, and Director of Studies. In 1990 he moved to Nantebs in the west of France, where he opened his own private training organization, International Language Services. Robert McLarty has been involved in Business English teaching since 1979. He is a teacher and teacher trainer, and has run a number of RSA Diploma and teacher-training courses. Mark Falcoff is a visiting fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations, permanent senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute for Public Policy Research in Washington, D.C., and a former national fellow at the Hoover Institution on War, Revolution, and Peace, Stanford University. It misses the Cuban spirit

Most books on Cuba talk about the charm of her people, the delights of her women (for male authors, anyway) and the chaos of her economy. I visited Cuba in December of 2002 and can cheerfully report that Cuba is a highly seductive place, a place of great charm and beauty, and Cuban women are the sweetest in the world.
In this book, we see a very different Cuba, Economic Cuba. And Economic Cuba is a disaster. Harvests are failing. Equipment is failing. Sugar cane is rotting in the fields. Tourist hotels are booming but enrich only a tiny percentage of the population.
Economic Cuba, then, doesn't have a chance. The author paints a grim portrait of a country time forgot, one where there was little hope of any kind of economic recovery.
I have no doubt that this book is factual, as far as it goes. But it reads like someone who has never taken a stroll on the Malecon, the seawall. Beautiful but decaying examples of ancient architecture line the vast, American-built promenade. On the other side, the ocean, in its magnificence, and beyond the twin towers of the Hotel Nacional and the slick sterility of the Melia Cohiba hotel. The occasional Cuban girl offers the male tourist his favourite kind of company, as he strolls past enjoying the sunset.
In other words, this book underestimates the pull and the charm of Cuba, for tourists and future residents alike. If Cuba is opened up to investment from Americans, if investment laws can be made fair and the ugliness of Communism swept away into the dustbin of history, I have no doubt life on the island will become dynamic and fun once more.
But those are a lot of "if"s. If this book had done a good job analyzing them, I would cheerfully recommend it. But its analysis, in 25 brief pages, is superficial and reads like it came from someone who has never visited the island or enjoyed its charms.

It's a dirty job, but someone has to do it.

Yes, Cuba is a charming and seductive place to visit. But as any one of the thousands of desperate migrants from that troubled land can tell you, it is a brutally hard place to live. Those women the tourist meets stolling along the seawall aren't out there for the view or the exercise. They are locked in a heart-wrenching struggle to eck out another day's subsistence using the only thing the state hasn't stolen from them (yet).
So it is a dirty job, but someone has to look past the charm and facade of today's Cuba and examine the cruel reality of Castro's legacy objectively. Numbers don't lie--they are what they are. That Cuba's numbers are horrible is not the fault of the author; those numbers (and the human suffering they entail) are the fault of Castro and the legions of boot-licks who have kept him in power, lo these many years. Left-wing American journalists, academics, democrat politicians, and celebrity activists figure prominently in that group, to their shame.
Mark Falcoff did this dirty job about as well as anyone could have expected. It's always a challenge to study a closed society such as Cuba's, where important facts are hidden away, crucial incidents are covered up or denied, and the official story is always a deliberate lie. I've studied Cuba closely for years, and I have always hoped that the long-sufering Cuban people would one day have a brighter future, free of Castro's suffocating bite. I was as disheartened as the previous reviewers were to be confronted with the ugly facts, but there they are. Complaining about them won't help.
Those who really care about Cuba should thank Mr. Falcoff for the 'heads up' this book provides. I hope our policy makers are aware of the information and analysis this book provides, and have some kind of plan to deal with the societal implosion the book predicts.

An accurate account of reality without concern for fluff.

How refreshing to read a book that deals with reality, rather than the romantic rantings of liberals enamoured with Fidel Castro, cheap rum and desparate prostitutes. This book is a seriuous analysis of the problems Cuba will face in the future, and the legacy of hardship its people will have to endure thanks to the failed socialist experiment.

Anyone interested in a serious look at the costs of the "Socialist Paradise" where "everyone is equal" and there are "no poor people," should read this book. The disaster of this social experiement will impact us here in the USA whether we like it or not.
